De - Railed (12.05.03)
Lately it's been all but impossible to ignore the BC
Rail sale. The unfortunate souls who's jobs have been slashed have made
it quite clear that they're upset. And they have every right to be.
During their first outburst at the council meeting I
was moved by the passion and hopelessness of people on the verge of unemployment.
I recognize that nervous tension all to clearly as it wasn't long ago
that I too lost my job.
When faced with the news I wish I could say that
I bravely sucked it up and moved on with my life. Well, I did, but not
before throwing a chair at
the person giving me the news. Loosing a good job is an absolutely horrible
experience and to add insult to injury the
news comes just before Christmas.
Like I said, the first misdirected outburst was
acceptable, however the latest scene during the districts Nexon lands
announcement crossed a bridge too far. What little sympathy the enraged
BC Rail workers once had is now completely gone. I understand you're pissed
off and you want to tear a strip off the person responsible. Well then
your fight is with the man who sold you out behind closed doors.
And that man is Gordon Campbell.
Your treatment of our Mayor is no better than the
kid wrongfully expelled from school beating up the fat kid because he's
too gutless to take on the principal. Yes our mayor looks the fool for
stepping into waters that has Gordon playing him for a patsy. But if you
think for a moment Ian could in any way have saved your jobs well then
you better wake up and face the bitter reality that you're not only unemployed,
you've been played for a patsy as well. Make
no mistake, right now Gordon Campbell is laughing at you and your family.
He just once again sold a public asset for
a song and he's getting off scott free as you shamelessly misdirect your
attacks.
Just look at how the deal went down. A public company
that was making millions was sold for next to nothing. During the process
CP walked away saying the deal has already been made and this sale is
a sham. It's also reported that CN expects to make 100 million dollars
a year from the sale.
Sounds like another day in BC Liberal paradise.
You want to make a difference? Focus
your venomous hatred on sending a clear message to the crook who stole your
job. Flood the premier's office with letters, phone calls and emails. Send
letters to the editor of the major papers and express your concern about
his blatant disregard for your family and our province. Or you can continue
to rough up cancer patients and middle men, tactics no doubt playing right
into the gleeful hands of the committee to re-elect Gordo. Make no mistake
he will be re-elected and it has everything to do with your misdirected
behavior. After all, if the families he destroys don't take him to task
why should anyone else?
