Few, and I mean very few films adapted from novels are as good as their source. This due mainly to the fact that even the best acting and special effects can’t compete with one’s imagination. The best anyone can hope is for the story to hold’s it’s own on the big screen and be good in its own right.
By in large the Harry Potter series has done just that. It’s not as good as the books but they’re decent for what they are: teen adventure films.
In this, the fifth installment of the story, it’s no fun being Harry. Dark clouds follow him the whole movie and he once again has to listen to people say “Oh, he’s too young, we can’t tell him the whole truth” Then of course he’s the only one that can save everyone. I think I liked this movie if only because it had the least of Malfoy, and plenty of Snape. As well Imelda Staunton is perfect as Dolores Umbridge, the tight ass teacher. Although fans of the book might quibble over what was cut, I look at this as the Empire Strikes Back of the series. Its dark, doesn’t start or end on a high note, and you know big things are brewing.
Anyone considering seeing this film won’t be disappointed. I’m actually a little sad the
Series is nearing its end. The books are very readable and anything that gets teens to read get’s my full support.
