FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Squamish, BC March 30, 2008 – There is at least a two year waiting period to become a Squamish local. That isn’t a made up statistic. On average when someone moves here from Whistler, Vancouver, Ontario or beyond, it usually takes two years to meet people and gather a good network of friends. If you work out of town it takes even longer. Once you do crack the seal however Squamish is paradise as this community is absolutely filled to the brim with brilliant characters.

But those two years can be very lonely. Unlike Whistler with its vibrant village and Vancouver with its metropolitan amenities, Squamish at this time is a very sleepy town and it’s tough for newcomers to get to know anyone.

Add this to the record breaking influx of people over the last couple of years and there are literally thousands of neighbors unaware at what an amazingly vibrant community they’re living in.

“I’m really hoping to change that with this idea that has been percolating for a while now” organizer  Bryan Raiser explains “Whenever I meet someone new to Squamish I always try to welcome them to the community with a nugget or two of local’s info. When realizing the staggering amount of people new to Squamish I realized something bigger had to be done and what better way to introduce people to Squamish than with a few beverages in a no pressure environment. So it is, Squamish’s “Local Social” is born.”

There will be food and drink specials as well as lots of good people.  Again, it’s an incredibly low pressure event completely geared around having fun and meeting new people.

Bring your spouse, family, or come by yourself, everyone’s invited to come out and meet their neighbors. Also important to note, this evening isn’t about selling anything. Well, that’s not entirely true; I’m definitely selling my community. Squamish is undergoing massive change and the more people we have who consider Squamish more than just the place they sleep, the better.

The evening will also feature ‘encouraged mingling’ with the hopes that everyone will leave a proud Squamish local.

Tell your new clients, neighbors, co-workers, anyone who just moved here to come out and get local.
