Hot Enough For Ya? (08.01.03)
As splashes are heard from the neighbors pool and what's
left of the thermometer lies in a puddle on the sundeck, many are starting
to feel the heat.
In true heat induced, "I've had it up to here"
fashion, many are lashing out at whoever steps in their path. Why, just
last week some, oh how shall we say, "hoodlum" took exception
to the tax / user fee one must now pay to enjoy our beautiful parks. In
a dramatic display of "I'm mad as hell
and I'm not going to take it anymore" this
individual(s) decided the best way to express their frustration was to
remove the parking meter from Murin park and deposit it, cash box full,
on the steps of our municipal hall. While I admire your enthusiasm I fear
I must call you one a couple of things. First, what you did is highly
illegal and therefore I am unable to commend you on it. Second, although
the message sent was clear and true, you are a dumbass. That box of liberal
love has nothing to do with our Mayor or councilors. It's
the direct result of Gordon Campbell's Liberals mismanagement of public
funds.
You would have been better off delivering it to
our MLA Ted Nebling, or better yet, directly to Gordo Himself. Although
that might be tougher than you think since he has become
the most expensively guarded politician in BC's history. That's
right, we pay for four, count them, four plain clothes officers to guard
him twenty-four hours a day. You can't really blame him though. His blind
ideology has lead to countless destroyed families, not to mention cuts
to programs affecting children, elderly, the poor and other special interest
groups that laughably demand fair treatment.
However, with his latest backpedaling on the Coquihalla
there does appear to be hope. But it requires that "mad
as hell" energy to be focused into legal
channels such as letter writing, emails or even a simple phone call. He
didn't abandon the sale of the Coquihalla because it was a tremendously
stupid plan, rather because enough people focused their energy and made
him realize, politically, it could kill him.
So before you rip out another parking meter, remember,
only the lawmakers can break the law, so there he has the advantage. But
when he flashes that sickening grin safely behind our boys in blue, focus
that rage into productive and legal methods of political assassination.
Locally how about start a campaign to save our hospital.
The Squamish hospital is close to flat lining with all the cuts making
many experienced staff finally give up because they can't work under these
conditions anymore. Or how about the sale of BC Rail and BC Hydro, not
to mention his flabbergasting hatred of our teachers and public school
system. Unfortunately, the list is endless.
Then after you're done, go out and enjoy the summer
heat, perhaps even try to fry an egg on the sidewalk, before there's user
fees for that too.
