Superbad

Director: Paul Greengrass
Cast: Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, David Strathairn
Rated: PG-13
111 minutes

There aren’t many, but there are names in the film industry that over time, you can trust. As of Superbad, I’m adding Judd Apatow to that list. Granted, he was only a producer but the Apatow gang is tight. Seth Rogen who’s been with Apatow since the fantastic short-lived TV show freaks and geeks both wrote and stared in this teen sex comedy. As well you can see almost everyone who’s ever had a part in his many productions.

One things for sure, you now no what to expect when you see his name. Your're guaranteed to see a film that deals with the grey area of when boy becomes man. That and it always involves some over the top sex potty mouth. If you’re not comfortable with dick jokes, sit this one out. As shocking as it may be, they’re thinking man dick jokes, but still.

Perhaps the most shocking thing about the film is that it’s rated 18A. (Insert “kids allowed to see brutal torture but not sex talk” rant here. Stupid, violence accepting culture.) Besides that, the performances are great. Hill and Cera are best friends who will be graduating in a month and going their separate ways. The movie revolves around them trying to get alcohol and planning to score with their crushes. Meanwhile their other friend hooks up with some knucklehead cops and hilarity ensues.

In a world of appallingly bad potty mouth comedies, it’s good to know there are still some good ones out there as well.
