Rambo

Director: Sylvester Stallone
Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Julie Benz, Graham McTavish
Rated: R
93 minutes

I’m not one to be optimistic when seeing the words “film by Sylvester Stallone”. Yet I certainly did enjoy First Blood. And I must admit, after 9-11 when the US bombed innocent Afghanistan hospitals, and schools I did enjoy watching Rambo III when our hero arms and trains the Taliban.

When hearing about a new Rambo movie I was certainly looking forward to Rambo having to kill those kids he helped in Rambo III. But alas no, it would appear American foreign policy has not only alienated the world but it is even too stupid for a Rambo plot line.

This time around it’s impressive that the senior citizen Stallone can still rip out a man’s throat with one hand. On the other hand he’s looking (and mumbling) more like a roid-wrestler gorilla then ever before. The writing is gut cringingly appalling even for a Rambo movie, not to mention the acting which would be considered horrible even for a cheap porn movie.

One good thing though is this movie did shed quite a spotlight of the genocide going on in Burma.  Unfortunately it also once again made the point that no one cares if hundreds of innocent coloured women and children are being raped, tortured and mutilated. But when six white American Christian missionaries, or ‘god Squatters’ (as they’re called in the film) get kidnapped, justice must be done.

If you’re into some ultra-violent chunky blood splattering, you won’t be disappointed with Rambo and hopefully the Burma message will justify this movies existence.
